Ampersand Scratchbord Panels

Ampersand Scratchbord Panels are professional-quality scratchboard art panels designed for detailed illustration, fine line work and archival scratchboard techniques. Made in the USA using Ampersand¡¯s premium FSC-certified Hardbord?, these acid-free scratchbord panels feature an ultra-smooth kaolin clay surface coated with India ink for crisp, clean scratching and exceptional detail control.
Ampersand Museum Series Scratchbord Panels are a favourite among professional scratchboard artists thanks to their durability, consistency and ease of use. Unlike traditional paper scratchboards, these rigid 1/8″ panels stay flat during detailed work and offer excellent resistance to ripping or surface damage. The highly absorbent clay ground allows artists to scratch fine highlights and intricate textures with precision, making them ideal for illustration, wildlife art, portraiture and highly detailed monochrome work.
Each panel is sealed with Ampersand¡¯s proprietary Archiva-Seal? barrier technology to help prevent Support Induced Discolouration (SID), helping artwork remain stable and archival over time. The acid-free surface is designed for long-lasting artwork suitable for professional display and framing.
You can also add colour to Scratchbord Panels using Ampersand Scratchbord and Claybord Inks. These transparent, lightfast inks work directly on the surface, allowing artists to add vibrant colour washes or repair unwanted marks using Black Repair Ink. Once complete, artwork can be sealed with spray fixative and framed without glass for a clean, contemporary presentation.
