Caran d’Ache Pastel Pencils are professional-quality pastel pencils made in Geneva by Caran d¡¯Ache, combining the richness of extra-fine dry pastels with the precision and control of a pencil. Developed in collaboration with master pastel artists, these pastel pencils are prized for their vibrant colour, generous coverage and exceptional lightfastness – ideal for artists who want the expressive qualities of pastel with greater accuracy and refinement.
Each pencil features a substantial 4.7mm pastel lead, formulated with ultra-fine pigments for smooth application, strong colour payoff and excellent blending. The texture adheres beautifully to a wide range of supports, making them well suited to detailed work, layering and tonal transitions in portraits, landscapes, still life and expressive studies.
The pencils are housed in high-quality FSC-certified cedar wood with a rounded hexagonal barrel to prevent rolling on the work surface. A colour-matched cap and clear identification number make it easy to select the right shade while working. To protect the integrity of the pastel core, Caran d¡¯Ache recommend sharpening with a knife or blade rather than a standard or pastel pencil sharpener.
